Design entrance preparation at AptiGuide
Which design exam is the student facing?
Aiming for NIFT or NID
NIFT uses the GAT alongside creative rounds. NID DAT Prelims is the gate to a studio test. We teach the written aptitude components and help plan for the later rounds.
Applying through UCEED
UCEED Part A tests visual and spatial reasoning alongside language and logic; Part B has sketching and design aptitude. We prepare the written aptitude skills and explain where separate drawing practice fits.
Shortlisting private design schools
Pearl Academy, ISDI at ATLAS and IIAD have their own aptitude tests and later portfolio or interview stages. We plan test practice around each school's route and help the student present their own work.

What the written test covers, and how we teach it
Quantitative ability
Arithmetic, percentages, ratio, averages and basic algebra. This carries particular weight in NIFT, Pearl and FDDI. Anshul Wadhwa teaches quant and reasoning.
English and communication
Reading comprehension, vocabulary, grammar and usage. In NIFT GAT, communication and English together account for 50 of 100 questions. Priyanka Chopra Wadhwa, AptiGuide's Co-Founder and Academic Director, teaches English and verbal using the RAMA framework for reading comprehension.
Analytical and logical reasoning
Series, coding, directions, arrangements and data interpretation appear in NIFT GAT, Pearl GPT and IIAD iDAT. Anshul leads reasoning practice and timed mocks.
Visual and spatial reasoning
Rotation, mirror images, paper folding, cubes and nets matter especially in UCEED Part A and NID Prelims. Practice focuses on recognising patterns under time pressure.
GK and design awareness
Current affairs, Indian art and crafts, textiles, design and fashion awareness appear in NIFT GAT and across design aptitude tests. The AptiGuide team runs drills and mock tests across these topics.
Anshul has 16+ years mentoring students. He has crossed the 99th CAT percentile ten times, reaching 99.92.
What we do not teach
Build a portfolio that shows your thinking
We help students choose pieces that answer the school's brief, show sketches and iterations alongside finished work, set an order, and write short captions in their own words. The creative work must be the student's own. We then rehearse how to explain choices and changes during the interview.
Practise talking about your work
Mock interviews cover the portfolio, why the student wants to study design, current affairs and design awareness. We also discuss group or studio-style tasks where a school includes them. Priyanka Chopra Wadhwa, AptiGuide's Co-Founder and Academic Director, leads interview and GD training.
How the preparation runs
- Assess and shortlistReview the student's strengths and choose school routes.
- Prepare for written testsCover the relevant aptitude modules and use timed mocks to find gaps.
- Plan the portfolioSelect work, show the process and check each school's brief.
- Rehearse interviewsPractise speaking about the work and design interests in the student's own words.
Starting at least a few months before the first exam gives room for test practice and portfolio decisions.
