Map the Door Before You Drop the Subject

The useful question is not whether mathematics is “good for careers.” It is whether a likely degree requires school-level mathematics, strongly rewards it, or offers a bridge route.

Usually a hard eligibility gate

Economics honours, statistics, mathematics, actuarial and many quantitative programmes commonly specify mathematics in eligibility. Check the current university bulletin before changing subjects.

Often valuable but programme-dependent

Business analytics, finance, computer applications and some management routes may accept students without mathematics but still teach quantitative work quickly. Read the first-year curriculum, not only the eligibility line.

Usually not a gate

Law, communication, design, psychology, humanities and many general commerce routes normally offer strong options without school mathematics. Their competition appears through entrances, portfolios, writing or interviews instead.

If mathematics was already dropped

Do not assume the quantitative door is permanently closed. Compare bridge courses, foundation semesters, alternative universities and adjacent degrees, but verify recognition and eligibility before paying a fee.

The better decision would have been course-first, with tutoring and an adjacent backup considered before the subject change.
