A percentile is one input. Calls and conversions also depend on category, sectional performance, academics, work experience, programme rules and interview evidence.
Strong percentile, weak profile match
A high overall percentile can still miss a call when sectional cutoffs or programme-specific profile rules are not met. Check the current admission policy line by line before calling an institute safe.
Lower percentile, stronger programme fit
Some programmes, newer IIMs and non-IIM schools may fit the candidate’s function, fees and profile better than a higher-ranked option. Use the real floor as a shortlist tool, not a prestige command.
Call received, conversion still open
Prepare the academic story, work decisions, current affairs, function choice and evidence behind every resume claim. A call is permission to compete, not a likely admit.
No target call
Keep applications active, compare non-CAT routes where appropriate, and decide whether a repeat year has a specific score and profile plan. Do not repeat merely because the first result feels unfinished.
