Design is the work of making choices visible

Bennett University's B.Des. Honours is described as a four-year undergraduate degree. The checked material covers Fashion Design, Intelligent Textile Design, Product Design with AI, Game Design, Advanced Animation and VFX, and Communication Design. These directions remain within one degree guide. The first decision is whether you enjoy investigating a problem, developing an idea and revising it through making. A strong visual interest is useful, but design study also asks you to understand people, materials, purpose and the limits of a proposed solution.

Try choosing an ordinary object or piece of communication that you find difficult to use. Describe the problem before drawing an improved version. Who experiences it, under what conditions and what would count as an improvement? This is independent exploratory advice, not a Bennett admission task. It helps distinguish a preference for attractive finished work from an interest in the process behind it. A useful design conversation begins with the decisions you want to learn to make and explain, rather than only the style you admire.

Who should consider the degree?

B.Des. may suit a student willing to test ideas, receive criticism and change direction when evidence suggests a better approach. You do not need to be equally interested in every design field. You should be curious about how a problem becomes a brief and how a maker justifies the final choices. Some directions involve physical materials; others focus more on visual communication, interaction or screen-based work. Ask how the current foundation prepares students to compare those approaches before specialisation.

Keep the first sketch and a revised version of your exploratory idea. Write a short explanation of what changed and why. A revision supported by observation can reveal more than a polished first image. This is suggested preparation, not a prescribed portfolio format. It can also help you decide whether you enjoy the work enough to study it for several years. Bring the process into a counselling discussion, including uncertainty and failed attempts, rather than feeling you must already present yourself as a finished designer.

Eligibility, aptitude tests and portfolio evaluation

The central domestic criteria checked on 15 October 2026 list Class 12 with at least 50% aggregate, or the stated IB alternative of 24 credits with three Higher Level and three Standard Level subjects and English-medium conditions. Selection names NID, NIFT, UCEED or BUDAT, followed by personal interview and portfolio evaluation. Ask which examination result and cycle apply to the current intake. The list does not establish that every test result is accepted indefinitely or that a portfolio alone replaces the required assessment.

International applicants should obtain the applicable qualification and language requirements. Ask for an individual assessment if your board or marks structure is unusual. The minimum is not a guaranteed offer. Confirm which design direction the application records, when allocation occurs and whether any additional task is required. This guide does not invent a test format, interview scoring system or fixed portfolio size. Obtain current instructions and prepare work you can explain honestly, including the decisions and revisions that led to the final outcome.

Fashion and intelligent textiles

The fashion account names illustration, garment construction, pattern making, styling, draping and digital fashion-related work. Intelligent Textile Design adds published areas around weaving, printing, smart materials, surface and digital design, sensors and sustainable textile systems. These are related interests but not identical learning experiences. Ask what physical making, material investigation and technical study are compulsory in each direction. A student attracted to fashion imagery may discover a different preference after examining the actual work involved in constructing or developing a material-based idea.

For an exploratory comparison, take a clothing-related problem and separate the visual, fit, material and use questions. Which part do you most want to investigate? This is a hypothetical exercise, not a claim about a specific studio module. It helps you compare fashion and textiles on the work rather than the names. Ask how the current curriculum assesses process, experimentation and the explanation of material choices. A specialisation should fit the questions you enjoy pursuing, not merely the type of finished image you like seeing.

Product, games, animation and communication

The Product Design with AI account names human-centred design, systems thinking, rapid prototyping and related design study. Game Design descriptions include play, concept art, level design, engines and assets. Animation and VFX covers visual storytelling, modelling, motion and production pipelines. Communication Design names graphic design, typography, illustration, branding, interaction-related work, film and sound. These are checked subject areas, not a promise that every tool or elective runs identically for every student. Obtain the current plan for the direction you prefer.

Compare the intended result and the process behind it. A product idea may need testing in use; a game asks how a participant experiences a system of choices; an animation needs coherent movement and storytelling; a communication piece should help an audience understand something. These are independent ways to organise the fields. They are not additional Bennett modules or guaranteed career roles. Use them to ask which assessments develop the skills you want and how students learn to justify a decision rather than only produce an effect.

Studios, workshops and a useful portfolio

The checked page describes learning through assignments, projects, workshops and practical activity. Ask how students use facilities, what supervision is available and how independent access works. Equipment names are less informative than understanding the work students undertake and the feedback they receive. If a project is collaborative, ask how individual contributions are recognised. This guide does not promise a particular external brief, internship destination or named professional contact. Current delivery needs an intake-specific answer.

A useful portfolio can show a question, research, alternatives, tests and revisions alongside the final work. Not every project needs the same process, but the reader should be able to understand your decisions. This is independent guidance rather than a university portfolio rule. It can help you prepare for an interview without inventing experience. Include work you can discuss in detail, even if it is modest. A thoughtful explanation of an unfinished experiment may say more about your learning than a polished piece assembled without clear ownership of the choices.

Specialisation and award questions

The checked B.Des. introduction uses a smaller specialisation count than the wider menu and later programme summaries. This guide names the verified directions without promising a universal count or identical availability. Ask which routes run in the current intake, how students are allocated and what appears in the award or transcript. The catalogue also lists a global fashion-design route, whose receiving-award, transfer and financial conditions require a separate current check. No foreign admission, visa or progression outcome is promised here.

Possible directions after design study include studio-based work, visual communication, product-related development, digital creative work and further study, depending on the field and portfolio developed. A degree does not guarantee a job, a salary or readiness for every role named in promotional material. Keep the discussion grounded in the tasks you enjoy and the evidence you can produce. Ask what students learn to explain and improve, rather than treating a list of possible job titles as a prediction of your own outcome.

Application planning and entrance preparation

The reviewed pages display an August 2027 start label alongside documents from other academic cycles. They do not establish a live closing date or seat availability. Confirm the exact award, campus, mode, specialisation rules, current selection instructions and full fee and refund terms. No earlier financial table or placement headline is repeated as a present commitment. If you need aptitude-test or portfolio preparation, distinguish that support from the university's own assessment and admission decision.

Tell AptiGuide which design fields interest you and what you have tried observing, sketching or making. Include your Class 12 background and any current portfolio questions. Use the enquiry form or WhatsApp to discuss the shortlist and preparation; the related entrance-preparation link can help you explore that part of the process. Bennett University determines admission. Your decision should connect a verified offer with an interest in the practical investigation and revision that give design work its substance.
